Shop in Your Closet

Most people have a closet full of clothes and end up wearing the same few over and over. Why is that? It's because you get comfortable and you know what style looks good. So rather than buy more clothes that you'll probably wear only a few times, take a trip to your closet.

Spend some time making some ready-to-go outfits. What is a ready-to-go outfit? Choose how many different looks you need and have one of each ready at all times; a work outfit, a formal outfit, shopping and casual clothes. If you keep one outfit ready at all times you'll be happier with what you wear. Why? Because you took the time to see how it looks ahead of time, and you know it looks good. After you wear one of the ready-to-go outfits, replace it with a new one from your closet.

Some of the most fashionable styles may be as near as your own closet. Trends come and go but much of your wardrobe never really goes out of style. For instance, blue jeans are always in. You can wear a pair of jeans to the movies or to a five star restaurant if accessorized properly. Match your favorite pair of denim pants with high heels and a simple white cotton button-up blouse. Put on a black button-down sweater. Make sure you wear a nice necklace and bracelets. Several spangle bracelets worn on one wrist look very chic. Pull your hair back in a ponytail. Show off some long beaded earrings. A clutch purse in hand and you're set for an evening at a nice restaurant. You can change the entire feel and look simply by wearing flat shoes. Shoes make a huge fashion statement. You can wear the same clothing and only change your shoes to become casual or dressy. Keep the white blouse and jeans but wear a different outer layer. Instead of the sweater, wear a little hoodie. Tone down the jewelry for a casual outing. You are now ready for the movies, grocery store or a day at the mall.

You'll be surprised how much money you save by shopping at home from your own closet. An added bonus, you'll have less stress by having your outfits ready ahead of time! The savings you make from shopping at home can go to your vacation fund. Wouldn't you rather go on vacation anyway?

As an added financial bonus to shopping in your closet, you can take outfits you don't (or can't) wear and take them to a consignment shop. You can earn a little from those unused clothes and use that to supplement your wardrobe.
